Frequently asked

What people in your position usually ask first.

Is this really free?

Yes. There is no fee for consumers — ever. Lawyers pay us a fixed enquiry fee when we match them with a consumer. The price is identical for every lawyer in a given practice area and suburb. We never run auctions, sell exclusivity, or charge more for the same enquiry. This is published in our methodology.

How do you choose which lawyers to match me with?

We match based on practice area, your location, and our published ranking — which uses verified review rating (Bayesian-smoothed), review volume, recency, response rate, verification status, and profile completeness. Featured placements are clearly disclosed. We never let payment influence our editorial "best" pages.

Can the lawyers see my private details?

The matched lawyers see what you've told us on this form (matter type, suburb, your description, your name, email, and phone). They don't see anything else. Our data handling is governed by the Privacy Act 1988 and we store enquiries securely in Australia.

Are you a law firm?

No. Lawyer Reviews is an independent publication. We are not a law firm, we don't give legal advice, and no lawyer–client relationship is created by using our service. The matched lawyers are independent and responsible for any advice they give you.

What if I'm in danger or need urgent help?

If you're in immediate danger, call 000. For confidential family-violence support, call 1800 RESPECT on 1800 737 732. If you can't afford a lawyer, you may be eligible for free help through Legal Aid in your state. We're happy to refer you to either — just tell us in the form.

How long until a lawyer contacts me?

Most matched lawyers respond within one business day. Many call back the same day, especially for urgent matters. We follow up if no lawyer has responded within 48 hours.

Ready when you are.
